Stump Removal
The last step of the clear.
The first step of the build.
Stumps usually come up in conversation right after clearing. You've got a lot that used to be brush and small trees, and now it's a lot of stumps sticking up like bad teeth. Stump removal turns that into usable ground — ground you can grade, pasture, drive on, or build on.
What we handle
- Small to medium stumps from brush clearing — usually under 18" diameter.
- Residential tree stumps from trees that were previously taken down by you or a tree service.
- Post-clearing cleanup — the stumps left after the skid steer and brush cutter have made their pass.
- Fence-line stumps you couldn't mow around.
What we don't do
We don't grind stumps (that's a specialty tool — we can point you to a stump grinder if that's what you need). And we don't take down live trees — you'll want a licensed arborist or timber faller for that. What we do is pull stumps with the excavator — root ball and all — which is faster, cleaner, and cheaper than grinding for most jobs where the next step is grading or building.
After the pull
Stump holes get backfilled and tamped down so the lot is walkable and workable. If the stumps are going to a pile for burning or hauling, we stack them where you want them. If the next step is grading, we can roll right into that as part of the same job.

FAQ
Common questions about stump removal.
Stump grinding vs. excavator pulling — which is better?
Grinding leaves the root ball in place and turns the stump into chips at ground level. Pulling rips the whole thing — root ball and all — out of the ground. We pull. It's faster, cleaner, and cheaper for most rural jobs where the ground will be regraded anyway. Grinding is better when you can't disturb a lawn or paving around the stump.
What size stumps can you handle?
The E50 cleanly handles up to about 18" diameter. Bigger than that — we usually still pull, but it's slower. Past 24" diameter we suggest a tree service or a heavier machine.
What's left in the ground after the pull?
A backfilled, tamped hole. The pulled stumps go to a pile of your choice — burn, haul-out, or chip later. Ground left walkable and workable.
How much does stump removal cost?
Single residential stump: typically $200–$400. A lot full after clearing: included in the broader land-clearing quote, usually $50–$150 per stump in volume. We quote per job, not per hour.
